The Handbook of Teaching Qualitative and Mixed Research Methods: A Step-by-Step Guide for Instructors
This comprehensive, one-of a-kind text is an essential reference for those teaching and those being trained in qualitative and mixed-methods research. Each method has its own 1,500-word lesson (i.e., chapter) written by expert methodologists from around the globe. In these lessons, contributors give the reader a brief history of the method and describe how they teach it by including their best practices—with succinct, step-by-step instructions—focusing on student-centered experiential and active learning exercises.
In this newsletter, we share updates about our community’s research findings, upcoming events, and member milestones. We also share the results of our 2019 survey of methods teaching in cultural anthropology. You can download the newsletter by clicking here.
Teaching Toolkit
Our NSF CAMP faculty have developed various resources to assist in online teaching and mentorship. As part of the NSF CAMP research design, we used a comparison design of three mentorship styles–the traditional Socratic method, the Critical Response Method, the NABC method, and a new method developed specifically for Methods CAMP, the NQ-ABC. Download the flyers below to learn more.
NSF CAMP Feedback Method.
This handout explains how to implement our updated, research-tested, hybrid model that takes the aspects from each of the engineering Value Proposition method, the humanities Critical Response Process and the ancient Socratic method to help student develop their research proposals in a supportive environment.
Socratic Feedback
This handout explains how to implement the Socratic style of feedback that is common in academic settings. The last step includes reframing the feedback and the next steps to move the project forward.
